Susan Harbage Page is an artist that is currently displaying her exhibit Labels, Tags, and Misconceptions. In the exhibit, Susan uses photography, audio, and embroidery to closely analyze common stereotypes that women textile workers face daily. Moreover, Susan herself labored at a textile factory during the 1990's in Charlotte. Thus, she feels a close connection to these working-class women and hopes to emphasize the positive aspects of the women while disproving the stereotypes. Her work has been displayed not only around the United States, but also in Bulgaria, Italy, France, Germany, Israel, and even China. Along with creating artwork, Susan teaches at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke.
Janet A. Lasher, a textile and fiber artist, has been passionate about embroidery related art since her childhood. Despite her passion, she had a career as a statistical, financial, and systems analyst in the educational and corporate institutions. However, during this time, she left her job position so she could focus on fabricating fiber structures. Along with textiles, she uses printmaking techniques to create art that was abstract, narrative, and emotional. She currently lives in Charlotte, and teaches embellishment, mixed media, and surface design.
